One of the favorite imaginary games for my middle child to play is library. She is at that phase where she wants all her play to be imaginary play (after having been introduced to the Discovery show Gator Boys, she wants to pretend to be an alligator while my husband tries to wrangle and capture her - it's really quite funny).
I'm not surprised she loves to play librarian given how often we visit our local library and how much we enjoy it.
"Playing library" basically entails setting up a keyboard (who knew that standalone keyboards could be used for so many different things - they are a favorite here), propping up a book to be used as the "computer screen", attaching the keyboard cable to something, and then letting people check out books. I bring her a stack of books I want to check out and she types on the keyboard and hands them back. Sometimes when I come, the library is closed. Other times, it is story time.
Amy Karol at Angry Chicken introduced me to these cool freebies over at creaturecomfortsblog.com - old-school library cards and library card pockets! When I saw these, I felt like I was back in third grade. How perfect are these for my little librarian?!? I always have cardstock on hand, so they were simple enough to print out and use. We've not added them to all the books in our collection (yet) - but have put them in some of our favorites, particularly for use when playing Library.
I enjoy so much seeing the daily life things that my little ones latch onto and bring into their imaginary play.
